Yoga is a word that literally means “yoke” or “union.” The ultimate goal of yoga is to reach complete tranquility and peacefulness of body, mind, and spirit helping one relax and manage stress and anxiety. Traditionally, yoga philosophy requires that students achieve this through behavior, diet and meditation. Yoga consists of series of postures, controlled breathing exercises, meditation techniques, and a variety of dietary and spiritual advisements.
Hatha Yoga uses classical yoga postures – called asanas – which have been practiced for thousands of years. Classes generally begin with a breath awareness and progress into asanas that develop strength, flexibility, and balance. Classes end with a deep relaxation or meditation.
A regular yoga practice can help reduce stress, improve overall physical health, and increase strength and flexibility.
